Colloidal silver is made of silver atoms that are suspended in distilled ion-less water. The tiny particles are small enough that they can penetrate on a deep, cellular level, destroying pathogens of all types, such as viruses, bacteria, fungal spores and parasites.
It’s been used since ancient times as an antimicrobial, both medicinally and for preserving foods and liquids. With the early 20th century advent of more modern medicine, it was all but forgotten with synthetic medications being favored.
The overuse of antibiotics as well as a turn to more alternative, natural options has seen a return to the use of colloidal silver once again.
A study in the late 1980s, found that colloidal silver was highly effective against bacteria, viruses and fungal organisms, including those that had become resistant to antibiotics.
Colloidal silver has been known to be effective in fighting against: acne, AIDS, allergies, arthritis, athlete’s foot, boils, burns, candida, cystitis, diabetes, eczema, hay fever, indigestion, parasitic infections, psoriasis, ringworm, warts and yeast infections.
Some of the ways it can be used include:
- Spraying it onto a burn to prevent infection and promote faster healing without scarring.
- Dabbed onto ringworm, herpes sores and warts to speed healing.
- Used in a nebulizer, inhaled into the bronchial area to ease bronchial problems.
- Taken in small amounts daily to boost the immune system and prevent colds or the flu.
- Used as drops to treat an ear infection.
- Applied topically to treat a vaginal yeast infection.
- Taken at early onset of a cold, flu, or bronchitis to get over it quicker.
Of course the pharmaceutical companies tend to go after anything that could threaten their profits, and negative publicity within the media has caused confusion as to whether or not colloidal silver is really safe.
Rare incidence of minor adverse effects from natural remedies are often blown out of proportion, despite the fact the there are many minor and major adverse side effects from prescribed pharmaceuticals.
You may have heard about the “blue man” who appeared on television back in 2008, who stated he turned blue after drinking excessively large amounts of colloidal silver every day for more than 12 years; in fact, he drank as much as 10 ounces daily, and sometimes twice each day. He also rubbed it into his skin every day.
Too much of almost substance is usually not a good idea. A silver safety guideline has been developed which recommends that a person’s intake of silver from dietary supplements be limited to 25 percent of the EPA’s recommended limit for total daily intake of silver.
It utilizes the Silver Safety Calculation, which is a simple mathematical formula that enables a person to easily determine how much to take of any silver- containing product to remain within the safety guidelines. You can calculate how much you should take by visiting the site.
Ultimately, it’s up to you to be your own health advocate and do plenty of research to determine what you should and shouldn’t use in or on your body, but we believe colloidal silver offers many wonderful health benefits when safety guidelines are followed.
