Many homeowners are aware of the dangerous toxins found in plant pesticides and other outdoor chemicals. However, toxins are present in many household cleaning products and even in the plastic packaging for many food products. Making your own cleaning products is easy and simple and you probably have most of the ingredients in your pantry already.
Many popular household cleaners contain a wide range of toxic chemicals. These chemicals contribute to the buildup of body toxins in both children and adults. Additionally, for individuals with chemical sensitivities, allergies and asthma, using modern household cleaners can present all kinds of health hazards.
1. Baking Soda
Baking soda can be used to deodorize refrigerators, clothing and other stinky items. It can also be used to scour dirty pots and pans, floors and other items with dirty buildup.
2.White Vinegar
White vinegar is a multipurpose product, and it’s inexpensive too. It can be used to remove hard water stains in coffee pots and plumbing fixtures. It can also be used to remove mildew stains from walls, bathroom tile and floors. It removes wax buildup on floors and furniture.
3. Vodka
Alcohol is an inexpensive and effective disinfectant cleaner. You can dilute Vodka in water. Use it to cleanse counters, dishes and other areas where dirt or contaminants have accumulated. Vodka can also be used as a bug repellant.
4. Corn Starch
Corn starch works very well to clean rugs and carpets. Sprinkle it on the carpet and let it stand for 30 minutes then vacuum it up. It absorbs odors and dirt. It can also be used to polish furniture and clean windows.
Many of these household solutions have been used by homeowners for decades, long before many current chemical cleaners were developed and came into use. Old-fashioned methods are still effective today. They are inexpensive, easy to use and expose you and your family to far lower levels of toxins and chemicals.
