Pet owners, take note: Two more popular raw pet foods have been urgently recalled due to concerns about contamination with Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella. Both pathogens are known to pose serious health threats, not just to your pets, but also to anyone handling the food.
On April 15th, Blue Ridge Beef announced a recall of the following products:
- Blue Ridge Beef Kitten Mix (2 lb logs), Lot # N26 0114
- Blue Ridge Beef Puppy Mix (2 lb logs), Lot # N25 1230
These raw pet food products were distributed in nine states: New York, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin. At this time, only these two-pound logs are affected, but extreme caution is advised.
Contaminated raw pet food is a growing concern. Both Listeria and Salmonella can cause severe illness in animals, leading to symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, fever, or even death. They can also be transmitted to humans through contact.
If you have either of these products:
- Stop feeding it immediately.
- Check the lot number near the edge of the packaging.
- Discard the product safely, and then thoroughly wash your hands and surfaces.
- Contact your retailer for a refund.
No illnesses have been reported yet. If your pet has consumed the food and is showing unusual symptoms, contact your veterinarian promptly.
Blue Ridge Beef has experienced multiple recalls in recent months, raising broader concerns about the safety of raw pet food diets. Stay informed, check your products regularly, and closely monitor your pets’ health after making dietary changes or switching products.
Your pet’s safety—and your family’s—is worth the extra vigilance.
