Do you look forward to the fresh, dewy mornings of spring but dread the “Spring Forward” time change? Let’s face it. Losing an hour of time affects our schedules, routines and overall sleeping patterns. We’re going to help you use springtime as a way to feel refreshed and rejuvenated.
The great thing about spring is the positive feeling of change. The weather warms up, we begin to plan fun vacations and it’s still sunny when most of us get home from work. This idea of “out with the old, in with the new” offers us a chance to clean up our lives in different areas and get a hold on our health.
To maximize this season as a time for rejuvenation, keep a few things in mind. First, as the time changes, be gentle with yourself. Allow for naps, sleeping late and anticipate the grogginess you feel from the change. Start getting ready for bed a little sooner than you normally would and practice easing your way into getting up earlier. Even though you’re still getting up at the same time, it’s technically an hour earlier than you’re used to, so give yourself a few days time to adjust.
In the evenings, plan for relaxation and read, take a hot shower or bath, go on a leisure walk or spend quiet time with someone you love. In the mornings, make sure you’re spending the time doing things that refresh your energy levels. Drink more water, stretch and even exercise, jump around and listen to upbeat music. This will help you enjoy your days more and adjust to the changes around you.
Use springtime as your opportunity to relax, schedule some time off of work (even if it’s just a day or two) and clean house. Get rid of clutter in your closet, kitchen cabinets and garage. Make this your time to renew your overall life. You’ll feel lighter, more energetic and healthier if you do.
Spring change doesn’t have to be a burden. Make this your time for renewal and rejuvenation, and you will enjoy your life more!
