In a major win for President Donald Trump and House Republicans, the House of Representatives approved a bold budget resolution packed with Trump’s top priorities – border security, defense, energy, and tax cuts. The measure passed 217 to 215, with all Democrats and one Republican, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), opposing it.
The $4.5 trillion in Trump tax cuts extend the historic 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, keeping money in the pockets of hardworking Americans. The bill also boosts border security and military funding by $300 billion while implementing up to $2 trillion in spending cuts to rein in wasteful government programs.
Despite opposition from the left and tense negotiations with fiscal conservatives, Trump personally stepped in, calling holdout Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN) to rally support. The final vote saw lawmakers rushing back to the floor as Republican leadership secured a critical victory for the America First agenda.
The bill also raises the debt ceiling by $4 trillion to prevent a financial crisis while ensuring Trump’s policies move forward. Republicans plan to use budget reconciliation to pass the bill through the Senate with a simple majority, bypassing Democratic obstruction.
With this budget, Trump and the GOP are delivering on their promise-lower taxes, stronger borders, and a secure future for American families.
