President Donald Trump has announced that his administration will release the remaining files related to the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy without redactions. Speaking at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Trump said, “You’ve got a lot of reading,” as he confirmed the release of 80,000 documents, though the exact number of new disclosures remains unclear.

Since the assassination, conspiracy theories have flourished, questioning the official conclusion that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. In an effort to promote transparency, Trump previously ordered the release of classified documents, directing intelligence agencies to develop a plan to make the remaining records public. His order also included files related to the 1968 assassinations of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.

The assassination, which took place on November 22, 1963, shocked the nation. While riding through Dallas in an open motorcade, JFK was fatally shot. Oswald, arrested shortly after, was himself killed two days later by Jack Ruby. The Warren Commission later determined Oswald acted alone, though skepticism persists.

While most JFK-related documents have been released under a 1992 law, some remain classified. Recently, the FBI uncovered 2,400 additional assassination-related records, which are now undergoing review. Previous disclosures have revealed intelligence operations at the time, including Oswald’s visits to Soviet and Cuban embassies in Mexico City.

The upcoming release may not contain shocking revelations, but it is expected to add new details to one of history’s most scrutinized events.
