Chances are, you already have a powerful brain-boosting ingredient in your kitchen: olive oil. According to a recent study by Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health, consuming just half a tablespoon (about seven grams) of olive oil daily is linked to a 28% lower risk of cognitive decline and related deaths.

The study, which tracked 92,383 participants over 28 years, found that those who consumed the most olive oil were significantly less likely to develop neurodegenerative diseases. Researchers suggest that olive oil’s rich supply of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds plays a key role in protecting brain cells from damage.

How Olive Oil Supports Brain Health

Olive oil – especially extra virgin olive oil (EVOO)—contains oleuropein-aglycone, a powerful compound known for its neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. These phenolic compounds help combat oxidative stress, a major contributor to cognitive decline.

Easy Ways to Enjoy Olive Oil Daily

Incorporating olive oil into your routine is simple:
✔ Drizzle over salads or roasted vegetables
✔ Use it as a dip for whole-grain bread
✔ Blend into smoothies for a subtle richness
✔ Add to soups or pasta dishes
✔ Use in homemade dressings or marinades

With so many easy ways to enjoy it, adding olive oil to your daily diet is a delicious step toward better brain health!
