President Donald Trump is making it clear that he’s ready to adjust the U.S. strategy with China to protect American consumers and businesses. Speaking from the White House, Trump suggested the tit-for-tat tariff war with China may be nearing an end, signaling a more strategic, measured approach going forward.
“I don’t want them to go higher because at a certain point you make it where people don’t buy,” Trump told reporters, referring to tariffs. “You want people to buy.” It’s a smart, America-first move—keeping pressure on China, while also making sure unnecessary price hikes don’t hurt hardworking Americans and U.S. companies.
Since 2018, Trump has held China accountable with tough trade policies and strong tariffs, protecting U.S. manufacturing and pushing back against unfair practices. Though Beijing retaliated, Trump stood his ground, raising tariffs on Chinese goods to 145%. And now, with signs that both sides may be ready to talk, Trump is wisely keeping the door open for a deal—on America’s terms.
As for TikTok, Trump made it clear that national security still comes first. He has extended the deadline for China-based ByteDance to sell off its U.S. operations of the popular app, which is used by 170 million Americans. But for now, he says the deal is on hold until trade talks progress.
“We have a deal for TikTok,” Trump said. “But it’ll be subject to China, so we’ll just delay the deal till this thing works out.”
President Trump is proving he knows how to negotiate. He’s playing it smart, keeping America strong, and refusing to fold under pressure—precisely the kind of leadership this country needs.
