Not having enough time is no longer an excuse to get out there and hit the ground running. Researchers from the Department of Exercise and Sport Science now say that the amount of running you do is not as important as the intensity to which you do it at.
Get Ready, Get Set, Get Excited!
Do you ever go to bed at night dreading the thought of waking up only because a long run in suffocating temperatures awaits you? Well now you no longer need to fear the thought of lacing up your old sneakers. According to researchers, experienced runners who performed only a 30-minute program were able to improve their times while decreasing their blood pressure and lowering their cholesterol.
The program is based upon a 10-20-30 training concept and consists of a simple warm-up followed by 5 minute intervals of a relatively faster speed until a maximum speed is met. The best part? The intervals are met by 2 minutes of rest in-between.
This program is sure to beat those long 8 milers where even the most intellectual person runs out of thoughts as they zip their way through unending trails. You may even be able to get away with hitting the sleep button one more time before you start spinning your wheels.
