In a recent study out of the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania, researchers found that the green coffee bean may contribute to fast and safe weight loss. Several other health benefits from green coffee have been found that contribute to general overall health. Green coffee does not have the classic smell and taste of roasted coffee. It is slightly bitter and has very little smell. However, the tradeoff may be worth it for the health benefits it provides.
Weight Loss
Study participants were given green coffee in capsule form to examine effective dosage levels and weight loss. Researchers found that higher doses off approximately 1,000 mg of green coffee resulted in a weight loss of approximately 10 percent of body weight for study participants. They were also given 700 mg of green coffee, which still resulted in weight loss, but in lower amounts.
High Blood Pressure
Green coffee also has been shown to decrease blood pressure levels. A Japanese study showed that consuming green coffee does not cause negative side effects. In larger doses, it can substantially improve blood pressure levels in patients with high blood pressure.
Blood Sugar Regulation
In another study from Helwan University in Cairo, Egypt, researchers found that both green coffee and roasted coffee lowered blood sugar and glucose levels in diabetic rats. Researchers believe that both forms of coffee lower blood glucose and sugar levels due to chlorogenic acid, which is present in coffee beans.
You can find green coffee supplements in capsule form at many health food stores and from online sources. According to the study from Pennsylvania, the most effective doses for weight loss were approximately 1,000 mg daily.
