The availability of compounded weight loss drugs is coming to an end. A federal judge has ruled that compounding pharmacies must stop making copies of tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound) since the FDA declared the shortage over. Compounded semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) will also be phased out by April 22 for smaller pharmacies and May 22 for larger ones.

Many patients relied on these lower-cost versions, often prescribed via telehealth providers like Hims & Hers and Ro. Now, some are receiving mixed messages—some assured their prescriptions won’t be affected, others warned of cancellations.

While compounding pharmacies can still create custom formulations if a “clinical difference” is necessary (e.g., adding B12 to reduce side effects), this approach could attract legal challenges from pharmaceutical companies.

How to Boost GLP-1 Naturally

Fortunately, there are natural ways to support GLP-1 production, a key hormone that regulates appetite and blood sugar.

  1. Increase Fiber Intake – Foods rich in soluble fiber, like oats, beans, flaxseeds, and vegetables, promote gut health and naturally stimulate GLP-1 release.

  2. Eat More Protein – Lean proteins like eggs, fish, chicken, and plant-based sources (e.g., lentils, tofu) enhance GLP-1 production and help control appetite.

  3. Incorporate Healthy Fats – Omega-3s from salmon, chia seeds, and walnuts, along with monounsaturated fats from avocados and olive oil, support hormone regulation and satiety.

  4. Try Probiotic & Fermented Foods – A healthy gut microbiome influences GLP-1 levels. Include yogurt, kefir, kimchi, or sauerkraut in your diet.

  5. Engage in Regular Exercise – Strength training and aerobic activities, like walking and cycling, improve insulin sensitivity and stimulate GLP-1 secretion.

  6. Manage Stress & Sleep – Chronic stress and poor sleep disrupt gut hormones. Prioritize rest, practice mindfulness, and reduce stressors to support metabolism.

While prescription medications can be effective, these lifestyle changes can naturally enhance GLP-1, improve metabolic health, and support long-term weight management.
