As flu and allergy seasons collide, a dangerous new recall demands urgent attention. Ascent Consumer Products Inc. has voluntarily recalled one lot of SinuCleanse Soft Tip Squeeze Bottle Nasal Wash due to contamination with Staphylococcus aureus – a potentially deadly bacteria, according to the FDA.

This nasal wash, commonly used for sinus relief, now poses a serious risk. Staph bacteria, while often harmless on the skin, can trigger life-threatening infections if introduced into the bloodstream, sinuses, or eyes.

The FDA warns that exposure could lead to severe complications, including bacterial sinusitis, endocarditis (a heart infection), bone and joint infections, splenic abscesses, or meningitis. Users may also suffer from eye infections, vision loss, and cranial nerve damage.

The affected lot – number 024122661A1, expiring December 31, 2027 – was distributed nationwide in January 2025. Check the side of the carton or back of the saline packets for these details.
