We’ve all been there—you take a bite of pizza or a sip of hot coffee, and instantly regret it. That scorched, stinging sensation on your tongue can linger for hours or even days. But the good news? You don’t have to suffer in silence. Here’s how to heal a burnt tongue quickly and comfortably.

 Cool it down immediately. As soon as you feel the burn, rinse your mouth with cold water or suck on ice chips. This helps reduce inflammation and can prevent further tissue damage.

Go for soothing foods. Cold, soft foods like yogurt, milk, applesauce, or ice cream can offer instant relief while also creating a protective coating over the sensitive area.

Avoid irritants. Skip spicy, salty, acidic, or crunchy foods for a day or two—they’ll only aggravate the injury. Also, steer clear of hot drinks until your tongue feels better.

Try honey or aloe vera. Honey is a natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agent. Dab a small amount on your tongue and let it slowly melt. Aloe vera (food-grade only!) can also reduce pain and speed healing.

Stay hydrated. A burnt tongue dries out quickly, which can slow healing. Drink plenty of water to keep your mouth moist and promote tissue repair.

Consider over-the-counter help. If the pain is more than a mild annoyance, sugar-free throat lozenges or oral pain gels can provide temporary numbing relief.
