Let’s face it: boarding a plane can be chaotic. But just because travel is stressful doesn’t mean manners go out the window. In fact, the gate area and jet bridge might be where your etiquette matters most.
Here are the most common (and cringiest) boarding faux pas—and how to be better.
- Don’t Be “Gate Lice”
Hovering around the gate before your group is called doesn’t get you on faster—it just clogs the area. Respect boarding zones and wait your turn. - Skipping Ahead
Yes, overhead bin space is tight. But jumping the line isn’t the answer. Stick with your group and trust the process. - Boarding Unprepared
Have your boarding pass out, know your seat number, and be ready to stow your bag quickly. No one enjoys the aisle traffic jam. - Hogging the Aisle or Bin Space
Place only your larger bag in the overhead bin, and keep smaller items under the seat. And don’t linger in the aisle—stash and sit. - Pushing or Blocking
Whether you’re on the jetway or inside the cabin, be patient. Don’t shove past others or stop to chat—keep the line moving. - Taking the Wrong Seat
Double-check your seat number before settling in. If you’d like to switch seats, ask politely—after the rightful passenger arrives. - Being Glued to Your Phone
Trying to juggle bags while texting holds up the line. Save the scrolling until you’re seated. - Bad Attitude
A little kindness goes a long way. Greet the crew, be patient with parents, and ditch the drama. Flying is smoother when we all fly nice.
Remember: Board like a pro: Be efficient, courteous, and calm. It’s the right thing to do!
