Urgent Recall: Soup Products Pose Deadly Botulism Risk

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a nationwide recall of two SeaBear Smokehouse soup products due to a serious risk of botulism contamination. The affected products include:

These soups were sold in Alaska, California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington, as well as online for nationwide shipping. Consumers should check their pantries immediately and avoid consuming these products.

Why Botulism Is So Dangerous

Botulism is a life-threatening illness caused by Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that thrives in low-oxygen, improperly sealed food packaging. Even a tiny amount of its toxin can be fatal. Symptoms include muscle weakness, dizziness, difficulty swallowing or speaking, double vision, abdominal pain, constipation, and breathing difficulties. If left untreated, botulism can lead to paralysis and death.

What You Should Do

If you have these recalled soups, do not eat them. Dispose of them properly or contact SeaBear Smokehouse at smokehouse@seabear.com for a full refund. If you experience symptoms after consuming these products, seek immediate medical attention.

Foodborne botulism is rare but extremely serious. Always check recall alerts and inspect packaged foods for signs of damage before consuming them.
