Trader Joe’s has issued yet another recall, this time affecting their popular frozen Organic Acai Bowls due to concerns over plastic contamination. The company announced on February 15 that they voluntarily pulled the product from shelves and urged customers to dispose of any remaining bowls immediately. This marks another troubling recall for Trader Joe’s, following a series of contamination issues in 2024, including a botulism-related recall of canned tuna.
The recall impacts 10 oz packages of Trader Joe’s Organic Acai Bowls containing berries, bananas, granola, and dried coconut. The company did not specify UPC codes or best-by dates, instead advising consumers to discard any acai bowls they may have purchased. The retailer has confirmed that the product is no longer available in stores nationwide.
Trader Joe’s cited an “abundance of caution” as the reason for the recall, though no injuries have been reported. Contamination with foreign material, while less common than bacterial contamination, has been an ongoing issue for the grocer. Previous recalls have included metal in crackers, insects in soup, and rocks in cookies and falafel.
Customers are strongly advised not to consume the recalled product. Refunds are available at Trader Joe’s locations, and inquiries can be directed to Trader Joe’s Customer Relations department.
