There are so many excuses for not working out, and none of them are good. If you truly would like to get into shape, then it’s important to do away with them.
No one is saying it will easy to start up a workout routine, but once you get going you will see that there are so many benefits. One thing’s for sure: you will never be sorry for getting up off the couch to get some exercise in.
The following are a few common excuses people use to avoid exercise, and why they’re not such good excuses at all.
Too busy – Sure life gets in the way, but exercise should be a part of your life. If you can make time to watch your favorite show, then you can squeeze some exercise time in.
Too tired – If you find yourself running on empty, get up and work out. Exercise actually gives you energy. It releases endorphins in your brain, which makes you feel good, and gets the blood circulating through your body by getting your heart pumping – which also strengthens it.
Have to care for the kids – You can be a great example for kids. If they see you working out and notice how good you feel because of it, they may even want to join you. It’s a great way to get your family involved, and it makes for some wonderful quality time together.
Too old – One is never too old to work out. It’s one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself as you age. Exercise may help to ward off osteoporosis, heart disease and arthritis. Exercise also helps your mental health by boosting your memory and potentially preventing dementia.
Too boring – It’s not boring if you find an activity that is right for you. There are a number of workouts you can try. Bicycling, running, walking, rowing, dancing… the list goes on and on. Working out doesn’t have to be a chore. Make it fun and mix it up. If one thing doesn’t work, try another – just don’t give up!
Already thin – While being thin may be a good thing, it doesn’t always mean you’re in shape. You may not have to lose weight, but working out will still give you more stamina, firm your muscles, and get your blood circulating. It will also prevent you from gaining any excess weight in the future, along with keeping your body and mind healthy in general.
Too fat – Isn’t the purpose of working out, to get healthy? You have to start somewhere and at some time if losing weight and getting into shape is your goal. You will need to take baby steps and start slow. If you have access to a pool, swimming is one of the best exercises you can do. When you swim, there is no stress on your bones.
Too confusing – If you belong to a gym, you can always ask a trainer who works there what the proper techniques are, or how much weight you ought to be lifting without hurting yourself. If you’re working out at home, looking on the internet will help you.
If you’re using a DVD, most of the time there are instructional sections. It may take a little time, but before you know it, you’ll be an expert on all the different moves. It may also help to talk to a health professional you trust before getting started, to make sure your workouts are safe and effective.
Can’t get motivated – Don’t wait until you feel motivated to start your workout. Start working out now, and you will see results that will give you the motivation to continue on.
Exercise makes me hungry – Exercise actually suppresses your appetite. It releases a hunger hormone known as ghrelin that makes you feel satisfied. This hormone is released after doing a moderate to vigorous workout.
Starting your exercise routine may be difficult at first, but once you get started you will start to reap the rewards. So, away with the excuses! It’s time to grab your running shoes, water, and towel, and get moving!
