Protecting Your Pets from Bird Flu: Simple Ways to Stay Safe

Two domestic cats in Washington have tested positive for bird flu after consuming raw pet food, the state Department of Agriculture confirmed. Both animals ate Wild Coast Raw pet food, which was recalled due to possible avian influenza contamination.

One cat was euthanized due to severe illness, while the other is receiving veterinary care. The outbreak, which has affected poultry, dairy cows, and some agricultural workers, remains low risk for the general public, but pet owners should take precautions.

How to Keep Your Pets Safe:

While no human cases from infected pets have been reported, those handling raw food or exposed to sick animals are at greater risk. If your pet exhibits symptoms or has eaten recalled food, seek veterinary care immediately. Pet owners can find recall updates through the Washington State Department of Agriculture.
