Is Your Lover’s Penis Making You Sick?

While having sex can bring many benefits, sometimes a little too much time with his penis could make you sick, and we aren’t talking about STDs. Here are some unexpected ways his penis could lead to you getting sick:

Honey, you gave me a headache
Studies have shown that having sex can actually cause headaches. According to a report by the International Headache Society, sex can bring on two different kinds of headaches. The first type of headache it can cause is pre-orgasmic and is a result of sexual excitement causing a buildup of pressure.

The other type comes in the form of explosive pains and is usually experienced along with or immediately following the climax. Unfortunately for migraineurs, they are more likely to experience the second type of headache, which affects about one person in 100, as revealed in a 2012 study published in the British Journal of Medical Practitioners.

You might be allergic
You could have an allergic reaction to lubricants, spermicidal jelly, latex condoms, and possibly even his swimmers. Each man has his own unique proteins in his semen, so chances of a reaction to his swimmers are higher if it’s a new lover. However, over time the reaction can decrease as a woman gets used to a man’s chemical makeup. The best way to avoid a reaction, as well as STDs, is by simply using a latex-free condom and lubricants that are free of glycerin and parabens.

“Sometimes a woman’s body perceives proteins in the semen as foreign, and this can cause irritation or burning for her,” said Jennifer Berman, M.D., director of the Berman Women’s Wellness Center in Los Angeles and cohost of The Doctors.

Too much of a good thing
If you are overstimulated by an orgasm, it can lead to an overload of your nervous system. This can lead to a release of neurochemicals that cause sensations of nausea, dizziness, and feeling lightheaded. These same things can also be experienced by men. Men can experience what is called post-orgasmic illness syndrome and spend more than a week feeling a range of flu-like symptoms.

“After intense, multi-faceted levels of stimulation – like clitoral, vaginal, sometimes even rectal, all at once – women can experience an autonomic nervous system overload,” stated Berman.

The dreaded UTI
You are most likely to contract a dreaded urinary tract infection (UTI) after a sex-filled weekend. So if you and your man are really getting busy, don’t be surprised if you start to develop the tell-tale signs of a UTI coming on, such as aching, tenderness, burning and frequency. Because this type of infection happens so often to women, experts actually named it honeymoon cystitis.

“The urethra – the tube that goes from outside up into the bladder – is literally right next to the vagina,” said ob-gyn Mary Jane Minkin, M.D., clinical professor at the Yale School of Medicine. “When you have sex, bacteria from the vagina can get rubbed into the urethra, where it travels up to the bladder. And when you have a lot of sex in a short period of time, it can make you more susceptible to these infections.”
