Egg Prices Spike on Bird Flu Scare

Egg prices in California have surged dramatically, reaching an average of $8.97 per dozen in December 2024, a significant jump from $5.68 in November. This spike is largely due to a combination of factors, including a bird flu outbreak that has severely impacted poultry flocks, reducing egg supply. The outbreak has led to the euthanization of infected flocks, and repopulating these farms takes months. Additionally, California’s Proposition 12, which mandates cage-free conditions for hens, has further disrupted the market by increasing the cost of sourcing eggs.

This release is expected to occur before Trump’s inauguration on January 20.

Wildfires Devastate LA, Thousands Flee

One fire near a nature preserve prompted emergency evacuations, including the dramatic relocation of senior residents. Another blaze in Pacific Palisades destroyed homes in the affluent area, causing significant traffic jams as people fled. A third fire near Sylmar led to additional evacuations. Firefighters continue to battle the fires, with the strong winds expected to worsen overnight.

Trump Could Declare Economic Emergency for Tariffs

President-elect Trump is considering declaring a national economic emergency to implement his proposed tariff policies, which he made a central feature of his campaign. The International Economic Emergency Powers Act (IEEPA) would allow Trump to oversee imports during a national crisis. This move, still under consideration, could provide legal justification for broad tariffs, including those on China, Mexico, and Canada. The decision could significantly affect global trade and the U.S. economy.

Wrestling Fans Boo Trump Supporter Hulk Hogan

Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan was booed during WWE’s Netflix debut of “Monday Night Raw” despite being a featured star. Some speculate that the boos were linked to his vocal support for Donald Trump, including wearing a MAGA shirt for the event’s promotion. Hogan’s previous controversies, including a 2015 apology for racist comments, may have also contributed to the negative reception. The WWE’s alignment with conservative politics, particularly its promotion of Trump-friendly wrestlers, remains a point of interest for fans and critics alike.
