Biden Moves to Restrict Nicotine in Cigs  

In its final days, the Biden administration proposed a rule to limit nicotine levels in cigarettes, aiming to reduce addiction. House Passes Laken Riley Act  

The House approved the Laken Riley Act, mandating detention for migrants arrested for theft, in a 264-159 vote. Named after a Georgia student killed by a Venezuelan migrant previously paroled in the U.S., the bill had 48 Democratic supporters. With Republican control in Congress and President-elect Trump taking office, the measure has renewed momentum. Senate Majority Leader John Thune plans to bring it to the floor soon.

President-elect Donald Trump signaled potential economic or military action to gain control of Greenland and the Panama Canal. He criticized past U.S. decisions, particularly President Carter’s handover of the canal to Panama, calling it a mistake. Judge Aileen Cannon temporarily halted the release of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s final report on Trump-related investigations. The order followed a request from Trump allies, complicating the Justice Department’s plans. Smith’s report alleges Trump led “criminal conspiracies” involving classified documents and election subversion. Cannon’s prior rulings in Trump’s favor have been contentious.

 

European Leaders Push Back On Musk  

European leaders rebuked Elon Musk for spreading disinformation and praising far-right figures on his social platform X. British PM Keir Starmer condemned Musk for amplifying “poison of the far right.” Musk, a prominent Trump donor, was recently appointed to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency in the incoming administration.
