Warm Liquid #1: Dandelion Detox Tonic


Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) is often considered an annoying weed. Yet this nutrient-dense herb has been cultivated for centuries and used to treat a number of health conditions.

Dandelions have been utilized in a variety of ways throughout history. The Ancient Chinese used dandelion to treat various stomach conditions and to help induce lactation in nursing women. Native Americans boiled the whole herb in water and used the tea to treat kidney disease, swelling, skin conditions and digestive issues.

Early Europeans incorporated components of dandelion in several remedies used to treat fever, boils, diabetes and diarrhea.

Historically, dandelion has been used as a diuretic, which helps remove excess fluid from the body, detoxifying both the liver and gallbladder. This effect can help lower blood pressure and aid in proper kidney function.

This tonic can be taken 2- 4 times a day for a few weeks or more. Be sure that you acquire your dandelion from a reputable source, free of pesticides.

  • 1/4 cup raw dandelion root
  • 1/4 cup roasted dandelion root
  • 1/4 cup dandelion leaves
  • raw honey


  • Place the herbs in a clean 1-quart canning jar.
  • Pour boiling water over the herbs, filling the jar to the top.
  • Stir well.
  • Cover the jar and infuse for several hours or overnight.
  • Strain.
  • Reheat on the stove on low and add enough raw honey to taste.

Turmeric: Turmeric is a herbaceous plant, also known as Curcuma longa, that is a member of the ginger family. The healing and detoxifying properties of ginger may be due to its high concentration of gingerol and shoga, which provide anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effects on the gastrointestinal system.
These properties help to sustain digestive enzymes, which neutralize acids, supporting the entire digestive process. As a result, stomach discomforts such as gas, bloating, diarrhea and constipation can be relieved.


Lemon juice: The health-promoting benefits of lemons is old news. For centuries, it has been known that lemons contain powerful antibacterial, antiviral and immune boosting components. We know that lemons are a great digestive aid and liver cleanser.

Lemons contain citric acid, magnesium, bioflavonoids, vitamin C, pectin, calcium and limonene, which supercharge our immunity so that the body can fight infection.


Cayenne pepper: Cultures all over the world have used cayenne pepper to spice up foods as well as medicinally. It is used extensively in topical pain relievers because of its chemical component capsaicin. Cayenne also warms the body, helps to break down carbohydrates and has potent antifungal properties.

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon powdered ginger
  • 1/2 small lemon
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Raw stevia


  • Add the turmeric and the ginger to 2 cups of hot water.
  • Add 4 drops of raw stevia.
  • Combine the juice from 1/2 small, organic lemon and the cayenne pepper in another cup.
  • Mix the two cups together.
  • Sip the warm drink.

Warm Liquid #3: Apple Cider Vinegar and Raw Honey

Traditional uses of apple cider vinegar are vast. To name just a few, it has been used to ease digestion, aid in flu prevention, reduce inflammation, regulate pH balance, alleviate allergy symptoms, ease nausea and heartburn, as a staple in detox regimens, and for a number of skin conditions, including reducing acne and smoothing wrinkles.
