Alberta Looks to Join U.S. as Trump Pushes for Stronger Ties

As Canada’s liberal leadership alienates its energy-rich provinces, Alberta is looking south – to President Donald Trump and the United States – for a brighter economic future.

Canadian lawyer Jeffrey Rath is leading a delegation to Washington, D.C., to explore Alberta’s potential pathways to independence, U.S. territorial status, or full statehood. Frustrated by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s disastrous policies, Albertans see more in common with Montana than with Ottawa.

“People in Alberta are fed up with being governed by politicians in Ontario who don’t understand our province,” Rath said on FOX & Friends. “Culturally and economically, we align far more with the United States.”

Alberta, home to 4.9 million people, is a major hub for oil, manufacturing, and construction. Yet Trudeau’s government continues to suffocate its economy with crippling carbon taxes and anti-energy policies. Rath slammed the 21% carbon tax hike coming in April, calling it an attack on Alberta’s prosperity.

President Trump has long advocated for stronger U.S.-Canada relations, and Rath believes his administration will support Alberta’s push for self-determination.

“We’re urging the U.S. to recognize Alberta’s right to choose its future – just as they supported Greenland’s independence,” Rath said. “Alberta would be an excellent partner for America, and under Trump’s leadership, both nations would prosper together.”
