We live in a hectic and fast paced world. Technology surrounds us, and we don’t always realize that we need to unplug for a while. Our bodies, minds and spirits require rest and relaxation to recharge.
Here are a few ways to bring about a state of relaxation in your home.
Add some green
Plants are an amazing source of calm and peace. Studies have shown that nature provides a calming influence, and being around plants makes people more productive, accurate, and improves their concentration. People have also been shown to be happier and have less depression from stress when they had flowers in their homes.
The presence of plant life can increase feelings of positive energy and security, and can also amplify relaxation.
Get rid of clutter
According to Tisha Morris, author of Feng Shui Your Life: The Quick Guide to Decluttering Your Home and Renewing Your Life, “[clutter] is just stagnant energy. Where there’s clutter in your home, there will be clutter in [you] – either physically, mentally, or emotionally.”
Decluttering is more about emotions than about the actual object. Any object that has emotional baggage attached to it is far more stress-inducing than a small pile of random items. Be sure to remove anything that makes you experience negative feelings or emotions.
Add artwork
Consider hanging some decorative artwork. Choose images and themes that make you feel positive, calm, peaceful, and maybe even inspired. The images you see every day can affect your mood and outlook.
To start, remember that blue colors are calming and will help set a relaxing tone to your home environment.
Transform your home into a spa
Your bathroom can easily be transformed into an at-home spa. With a few inexpensive ingredients, you can make your own sugar scrubs or sea salt bath soak. Place some beeswax tea candles around your bathtub and enter a world of relaxation as you step into the hot bathwater and soak.
Use some scents
The smell of lavender is notorious for inducing relaxation. It is so easy to add relaxing scents to your home in a number of healthy and natural ways. You can sprinkle essential oils on small cloths and place them under your pillows. You could use a diffuser to release the oils into the air.
Fresh flower petals are another great option, though they’ll obviously only last a few days. To instantly freshen your kitchen, simply throw a few cinnamon sticks and some citrus peels in boiling water, and let it simmer for an hour or so.
Light things up
No matter which ideas you try, don’t forget to include some great mood music and a few comfortable throw pillows, just for good measure.
